About Kyle Bylin

Kyle Bylin is a librarian, writer, and creative technologist exploring how people learn, create, and find their way through technological change.

Following curiosity, from music to AI.

His career began in music journalism, where he watched digital tools transform the relationship between artists and audiences. As an editor at Hypebot and a writer for Billboard, he explored what happened when anyone could publish, distribute, and discover music online. Work in user research at Live Nation Entertainment and SoundHound brought him closer to the people using those tools: what they wanted, where they struggled, and how their experiences could improve.

Raised on a farm in North Dakota, Kyle returned to college as an adult, earning a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan in 2024. A first-generation college student, he brings a personal understanding of learning new skills and finding an unexpected path into a profession.

Today, he is the Research and Assessment Librarian at Saginaw Valley State University, where he participates in the university’s AI task force. He writes for Choice’s LibTech Insights and contributed to Choice and Clarivate’s generative AI literacy course for academic library workers. His work asks how libraries and educators can help people move from understanding AI to using it with curiosity, judgment, and purpose.

He is the author of Promised Land and editor of Divergent Streams and Song Stories. His projects—including the AI Guide, Music 2045, and Libraries 2045—give readers places to explore the ideas behind his writing. From AI Literacy to AI Fluency brings that work together as a free resource for educators, librarians, and anyone ready to begin an adventure of their own.
